Sourav Ganguly Indian cricketer, one of the most successful captains was introduced to cricket by his elder brother Snehashish Ganguly. He started playing in school and state teams and became one of the best batsmen of ODI (One Day Internationals). He is currently positioned as 8th highest run scorer and the 3rd batsman in history by crossing 1 thousand run landmark, after Sachin Tendulkar and Inzamam Ul-Huq. He was ranked as 6th best ODI batsman by “Wisden Cricketers’ Almanac” in 2002.

Indian Domestic Tournaments played by him are Ranji and Duleep. He showed his successful performances in the matches against Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Australiaand won Man of the Match award. He became the captain of Indian National Team after the resignation of Sachin Tendulkar in 2002. He was much criticized because of unsuccessful stint for country side Durham and for taking off his shirt in 2002 final of NatWest Series. His individual performance decreased and india was defeated in 2003 World Cup by Australia. Subsequently he was dropped from the team. In 2006 he joined the National Team with successful batting displays after winning Padmashri Award in 2004. He was again dropped from the team for several disputes and misunderstandings with the coach of Indian team, Greg Chappell. Conversely, he was selected for the World Cup 2007. He was also the captain of Kolkata Knight Riders in IPL 2008. He was also awarded Bangla Bibhushan Award from the Government of West Bengal on May 20, 2013. He is now a part of Supreme Court of India appointed Justice Mudgal Committee probe panel for the IPL Spot fixing and betting scandal’s investigations.
